Words of King Arthur

When the soul lives by its own integrity, chivalry is born.

Never commit murder, or act outrageously. Flee from treasonous thoughts. By no means to be cruel, but grant mercy unto those who ask, to keep our holy fellowship. Protect all ladies and damsels, upon pain of death. Do not do battle in wrongful quarrel, neither lawfully nor for attaining worldly goods. Speak no slander, nor listen to it. Honor your word as if it were God's own. Love one maiden only, and be to her the knight you reckon.

Always appeal to the best in men, to remind them of what is best. Believe in them, that they might believe also.

Deal with your enemies swiftly and with unshakable resolve, but deal with them justly, that you earn all men's respect. When called for, temper justice with mercy, so that your enemies become your allies. This supports a kingship with clear conscience.

Innocent I came and took that sword, ever mindful of its call.

When conscience becomes sound and no longer just echo, the true self is revealed.

Know your place with ladies and damsels of all rank and station. Honor them well.

Showing respect towards others determines your worth more than it does theirs.

Humility makes men bearable and breeds cooperation.

There was never a man so great he never failed, nor so wise he never played the fool, nor so great a horseman that he was never thrown.

One cannot cure in the flesh what is bred in the bone.

Gaze upon this (candle) flame, how its heat defies both dark and cold. The chivalrous heart does likewise, despite all odds. Encourage your fellows. The more tapers that burn, the more light and warmth dispels the darkness.

Anyone can reflect qualities of the heart, if indolence does not prevent him, for anyone can have courtesy and graciousness and other good qualities, no matter how he looks or how great his prowess. It is the heart where courage is born.

A true knight has no cruelty in him. He is courteous and compassionate, fair in judgment, and does nothing shameful.

Always give plenty, and you will have plenty to give.

Every profession requires effort and devotion and practice. With these three you can learn everything.

Judge men's hearts, not their words.

True nobility comes from virtue, not birth.

Always seek what is true, for only such knowledge as you have can you be free.

Valor comes not from a single brave act, nor from many. It comes from your everyday deeds, both small and great.

Rise above the flames of conceit. Honor comes from not from pride, but from the fearlessness of doing what is right.

Heal thyself, and heal the land with you. Both are the same. Be not confused or led astray. Through our actions and intent we are redeemed or condemned.

Be cautious in your pleasure. Excess is the ruin of many.

Who are you, Sir Knight? Let your actions tell me, rather than your words.

Justice means treating all people fairly. Mercy follows as day follows night with its clarity. Love completes everything.

Enjoy the fellowship of great men, that their greatness increases your own.

Every man has value. Let each man know it.

Recognizing the good in men strengthens their capacity for good.

Envy speaks poorly of your worth.

What patriot are you, who loves only half your people?
What knight chooses his battles in the marketplace?
What king worth his crowns lies to his own subjects?

This land is your domain. Honor it. Protect every blade of grass.

The king who wounds the land is not worthy of the crown.

Act swiftly but not foolishly. Opportunities vanish as quickly as they appear, but the fool ruins everything.

Let each man sit as equal to all others, neither greater nor lesser than any man present. There are no strangers here, no matter what continent you hail from. Your worth is your own for all to see. As for that empty seat there, we long for its filling, for the future is ever coming, and we know not who is most vital to our cause.

I see nothing, but wind upon the waves. It fills our sails and takes us where it will. We steer our course as fortune allows, for such is life.

For myself, I wish for peace and for the fellowship of my Companions, the likes of which the world has never seen before.

Would that we could change the past, even as it leads to our downfall. But we cannot. Like a stream it flows downhill in rushing madness, and only finds peace by joining with the sea.

You have done wrong, when you might have done right. Repair the damage and resolve to do better.

Here in this world, and in this world alone, can we change our lives. Do so for the better.
